It is a shrub up to 3 m in height or more rarely sapling up to 10 m. It does not have thorns on its abundant branches. The flowers are banky and fragrant. It grows in ravines, sickles, feet of rocky cliffs, rock crevices, edges of streams, thorny thickets, hedges and forest clearings of forests such as oak and oak groves, in fresh soils, umboros, limestone. It occurs in central and southern Europe, western Asia and northwestern Africa. In the Peninsula mainly in the north and east.
