It is a perennial, odorless plant with creeping woody rhizome and tufts of buds that do not flower. The roots are used as bitter-tonic, urinary antiseptic, anthelmintic and choleretic. Externally it is used in the preparation of antipruritic locones and for baths indicated in leucorrhea and varicose ulcers.
