It is a Mediterranean perennial plant with fleshy roots that has fragrant flowers, which are yellow in color and blooms from May to June. It grows up to 120 cm in well-drained soil. Its foliage is blue-green, it produces inflorescences of tall, narrow flower spikes. It takes at least three years before the newly planted seeds bloom. The yellow flowers always provide an interesting addition to the vegetable garden in late spring. The flowers do not last long, being quickly replaced by other flowers.
