It is a tall, slender palm native to Australia, growing up to 25 m tall and 0.35 m in diameter. It is crowned with dark, glossy leaves on petioles 2 m long. It has fan-folded leaves; young leaves are small. In summer it bears flower spikes with twigs of creamy white flowers.
