It is a deciduous vine that can reach a height of 30 m or more, given adequate support conditions. It has branched tendrils, presenting suckers at the extremities, which allow it to climb by adhering to smooth surfaces, covering them in all directions. The leaves on adult branches are lobed, alternate and measure between 8 and 15 cm, presenting a dark green color. The flowers are discrete, greenish and are grouped in clusters. The fruits are small dark blue grapes measuring between 5 and 10 mm in diameter.
