Trees of 60 to 75 meters, with trunk diameters of 1.5 to 2 m are common in primary forests; maximum heights of 100-120 m and diameters of more than 4.5 to 6 m have been documented.4 It can live more than five hundred years and sometimes more than a thousand. The bark in young specimens is thin, smooth and gray, with numerous resiniferous blisters. The leaves are spirally arranged, but slightly twisted at the base to rest flattened on one side of the shoot, are aciculate between 2-3.5 cm long with green colored upper side without stomata and with two bands of stomata on the underside. When rubbed they give off a strong fruity aroma.
