It has a rhizome that goes a few centimeters underground and follows a horizontal course. In spring it develops a stem of 10 to 30 centimeters. The leaves of the basal rosettes have a long petiole, are cordate or ovate and acute apex. The cauline leaves are elongated alternate with a rough surface with white spots, vaguely reminiscent of lungs. Leaves and stems covered with a rough fuzz. The flowers, which grow at the tip of each stem, are purplish pink turning blue when they open.
