Tree up to 25 m high, in adverse areas reduced to a stoloniferous shrub, with a straight and slender brownish-gray trunk, which cracks longitudinally. The crown is wide and its leaves are velvety on both sides and have very deep lobes. It grows forming extensive forests especially in siliceous soils. It appears in the west and southwest of the Peninsula.
