Tree with a wide crown, woody trunk with longitudinal cracks and deciduous leaves. Straight trunk, short and very thick in isolated specimens, with thick and somewhat tortuous branches; grayish or whitish bark, very cracked and brownish in old specimens. Large leaves, simple, in alternate arrangement, with elongated stipules that fall soon; they are hairless on both sides, deep green on the upper side and paler, with well marked nerves, on the underside; its shape is ovate, with very short petiole (2 to 7 mm), with the edge, more or less deeply lobed and with unequal and rounded lobes; they are usually about 6 to 12 cm long by about 3 to 6 cm wide.
