Erect plant, very branched, perennial, up to 1.5 m. Leaves narrow and lanceolate, usually with wavy margin. The basal ones with long petioles, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 10 to 30 cm long, often wavy edge, with obvious venation, the upper leaves more reduced. The inflorescence with the flowers verticillate and arranged in dense, narrow, elongated, ascending panicles, 10 to 50 cm long, floral pedicels 5 to 10 mm long, articulated near the base. Perianth segments of fruit heart-shaped, entire, with three (rarely one) protuberances.
