Subshrub with straight and woody trunk, up to 130 cm tall. Oblong, rough leaves, numerous at the base. Aphyllous inflorescence, terminal and very long, like a candelabrum, with very showy flowers, about 30 mm, arranged in a very characteristic way, on opposite twigs. Calyx glandular, bilabiate and with 5 slightly acute teeth. Corolla gamopetalous, bilabiate, with the upper lip white and spotted with violet, the lower lip being bluish violet. Androceo with 2 stamens. Bicarp gynoecium. Fruit in tetranuchula.
