Annuals. Stems up to 70 cm, usually branched. Leaves 17-115 x (1-) 3-40 mm, laxly hispid; basal leaves pinnatipartite, sometimes entire or toothed, with lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate lobes, the terminal dentate-crenulate; caulinar leaves pinnatipartite; upper leaves sometimes reduced to the terminal lobe. Capitula oblong or globose in fruiting. Involucellar bracts entire. Involucellum with tube 1-2.2 mm and corona 1.5-2.3 mm; coronule 0.2-0.5 mm, scarious and inflexed. Calyx with 0-5 aristae; those of upper flowers (3-) 4-8 mm; those of lower flowers absent or slightly developed; calyceal platform with capitate glandular hairs. Corolla bluish or purplish.
