Spreading bush with woody branches. Quadrangular flowering stems of about 10 cm that arise in rows. Leaves opposite, usually obovate, ciliate at base, with prominent lateral nerves, provided with numerous glandular points, 5-8 mm long. Flowers arranged at the end of fertile stems, in dense clusters; calyx tubular with 5 teeth; corolla bilabiate purplish. Fruit consisting of 4 small nucelets enclosed in the calyx. Flowers in late spring and summer.1
