It is a deciduous tree with a tall and robust growth habit, which can reach a height of up to 40 m. Its trunk is thick, somewhat tortuous and hollowed in old specimens. Grayish-brown or dark brown bark, very rough and cracked. Wide canopy, dense foliage, rounded, casting an intense shadow. Leaves simple, alternate, ovate, pointed, with the edge simply or doubly serrated, rounded or heart-shaped. Flowers early, grouped in inflorescences of up to 30 flowers, so that the fruit ripens and spreads before the leaves are fully formed. The fruits have a samara shape.
