This is a hardy perennial herb that grows from a rhizome woody. The leaves are thick oval and rounded in shape and up to about 30 centimeters long including petioles, located in a basal rosette on the stem. The inflorescence is a rigid, branched panicle 15 to 45 centimeters high crowned with clusters of bushy flowers. The small lavender flower has white sepals and petals.
