Very fast growing perennial shrub up to 3 m tall and 3 m wide. Alternate, compound leaves, up to 30 cm long, with large oblong leaflets, with deeply serrated margins, slightly silvery greenish blue color and silky texture. It produces large, erect, floriferous spikes, grouped in terminal clusters, of a bronze crimson color. The flowers produce a nectar that attracts insects. The fruits are green pods containing shiny black seeds.
