Tree that can reach 100 m in height and more than 6 in diameter. It has a cylindrical shaft in the middle zone and a flared base, with the first branches very low. Bark of reddish color and corky consistency. Alternate leaves, finned, somewhat prickly and decurrent at the base. Monoecious species. The male floriferous cones are ellipsoidal, yellow and terminal position. The female cones are formed by a set of green scales that will give rise to ellipsoidal cones, 5 to 8 cm long, and biennial ripening.
