It is a small tree, usually not very long-lived and does not exceed 10 to 20 meters in height, it prefers sunny and non-calcareous soil. It can grow in flooded places and withstands cold up to -30ºC. It is found from Canada to Guatemala.

Technical Information

Planting information:

It is advisable to stratify at low temperature (2-5 ºC) for 3 months and, before sowing, to soak it in water for 24 h after desalination.
- If a pre-germinative treatment is applied, it can be sown in spring, with a germination higher than 30%. If no pre-germinative treatment is applied, it is recommended to sow in October.
- Soak the seed for 24 hours, then stratify it at a temperature of 3 5°C (or outside in winter) for 4 to 5 months, sow as soon as the first roots appear'.
