Perennial herb, cespitose, more or less stoloniferous and robust. It has the base of the stems shiny, reddish-violet color. The basal leaves are hairy, rigid, 20-60 cm long, with pointed apex. It develops erect spikelets, between 15-40 mm, in the lower glume can be seen up to 5 marked nerves.
