It is a herbaceous perennial plant reaching 40-60 cm in height with pinnate leaves 5-12 cm long with 3-15 segments, each 1 cm long. Flowers are produced in spikes 10-30 cm long, with flowers 1-2 cm in diameter with four pale pink petals (rarely white). It grows best near water.
