Semi-aquatic perennial plant that reaches 150 cm in height and forms rhizomes, so that it generates lawns that are often linear. It is characterized by its general coloration of a light green, glaucous. It has leaves on the stem that are cylindrical and fistulous but not articulated. The inflorescence has branches directed upwards, with small brownish flowers. It lives in flooded areas generally saline. It is distributed in the Mediterranean basin, America and Africa.
