It is a tree up to 10 meters high. With the fruit, the carob, it is possible to prepare a chocolate substitute called carob, widely used in dietetic foods. Tender leaves and fruits are a good food for livestock. Indifferent to the substrate, but with a preference for limestone soils. It grows best in draining soils.
