Herbaceous perennial that can reach up to 2 and 3 m in height and 5 m in its place of origin. It is native to the Nile Basin. It adapts to any type of soil, including flooded soils as long as there is constant humidity or it is submerged in water. It is found at the edge of ponds, marshes, etc. The first paper was made by the Egyptians from the stem of Cyperus papyrus.
