It is a low shrub whose height varies between 15 and 60 cm, with thin needle-shaped leaves, 4 to 8 mm long and verticillate by three. The twigs are covered by a grayish-gray hairiness. The flowers are urceolate, pink or purple (more rarely white), 4 to 7 mm long, in terminal racemes, with pubescent peduncles.

Heat treatment at 100ºC for 4 min (Northern Peninsular seeds) and treatment at 110ºC for 10 min (Southern Peninsular seeds) is recommended.
