It is a perennial herbaceous, erect, rhizomatous. Cylindrical stems. Well-developed leaves 3-6 mm wide. Fruiting spikelets with white brushes, with hairs (mushrooms) of 3-5 cm, almost inclined after flowering, supported by smooth and thin pedicels. It inhabits wet and waterlogged meadows, banks of springs with acid pH. It is distributed in Europe, Asia, North America and Greenland. In Spain it is found in the Cantabrian Mountains and the Pyrenees.
