It is an annual species, with canes up to 1 m high and glabrous leaves, with laminae up to 40 cm long and 1 cm wide; obtuse ligule 6-8 mm long. It has ovoid panicle 2-5 cm long and 1.2-2 cm in diameter, very compact, with spikelets arranged in imbricate form. Glumes 6-10 mm long with dark green longitudinal bands, noticeably winged in the upper two thirds. Fertile antecio 5-7.5 mm long and 2.3-2.6 mm wide, straw-colored, shortly pubescent. Sterile antecia with lanceolate lamina and inconspicuous basal callus, reaching to the middle of the fertile lemma, pubescent especially towards the apex.
