It is a shrub that usually grows above 1 m in height (sometimes reaching three), has very green leaves with soft touch that produce an oil called urushiol which is not poisonous but when in contact with the skin generates an allergic reaction generating a rash, which appears 24 to 48 hours after contact. The flowers grow in clusters and have a greenish-yellow color (they give off a slight odor of honeysuckle), the fruit is the size of a reddish-brown pea.
