Perennial plant that can exceed 2 m in height, upright and with a strong rhizome that produces stems to completely invade the ponds and shallow ponds. At the end of the stems there is an umbel of flat convex section with primary rays of unequal length, the longest ones inclined or pendulous, they are usually rolled in pairs by a straw-like bract as a bandage. Stem smooth, slightly striped, round, leafless, up to 2 cm in diameter at the base. Leaves all basal and very short with respect to the stem, well formed out of water.
