It is a herbaceous perennial plant is planted by seeds or rhizomes. They are grouped in colonies of dozens of plants. Its leaves are large, cordate with an angular profile, are whitish green at birth and green as they age. The flower stalks develop before the leaves appear, are fleshy, spongy and scaly. The flowers are grouped in golden yellow flower heads.
