It is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches 10-100 cm in length with a fibrous and bulbous root with several basal leaves 15-30 cm long forming a rosette, these are oblong or lanceolate, subcordate at the base with long and grooved petioles similar to plantain. The floral stem is triangular and reaches a meter in height, they arise directly from the root and ends in an inflorescence with small and numerous white or pink flowers that are arranged in a lax pyramidal panicle, forming rings or bunches around the stem. The corolla has three petals and the calyx three sepals. The fruit is an achene with one seed.
